About

This archive is an act of cultural preservation and a testament to presence. It says: We are here.. in London, Toronto, New York, Japan, and beyond. Our stories matter. Our contributions are valuable. Our legacy will be remembered.

Caribbean stories are often told through the lens of crisis or celebration. This project asks: what about the in-between? Tuesday afternoon at the salon. The Sunday sound system check. The mentorship that happens on gym mats.

Inherited Light is the world's first ongoing multimedia archive documenting the Caribbean Millennial and Gen Z diaspora experience. Through connected stories, it traces Caribbean nowness as it's being lived.

Inherited is the primary focus: Millennial and Gen Z Caribbean stories, in Britain and internationally. Extended is a separate chapter, turning that same lens on the generation who built Caribbean culture in Britain in the first place.

Imaan Samson founded Inherited Light, a British-Caribbean visual artist whose work explores the intersection of contemporary expression and social culture. His work has received Webby Awards honors and an SXSW nomination.

Recognition

This archive exists because people were willing to be seen. To every subject who opened their doors and stories; this project only exists because you said yes.

To our partners and supporters who backed it before it had proof — your trust built the foundation. And to everyone still watching, sharing, and showing up: the light keeps going because of you. Thank you.
