Growing up with my grandmother and great-grandmother in Montserrat shaped me in ways I am still discovering. When I put this look together, I was chasing that feeling — trying to bottle something from a childhood that feels both close and far away.
Montserrat is called the Emerald Isle of the Caribbean. The only place outside Ireland where St. Patrick's Day is a national public holiday. But what happens there is unlike anything you will find anywhere else. It is a ten-day celebration. A living, breathing festival where Irish heritage meets African roots — and where the legacy of a slave rebellion is honoured right alongside it.
That is what makes it so extraordinary. St. Patrick's Day in Montserrat is about Black people, people of African descent, and their courage in fighting for freedom. Not just on this island. Beyond it.
