I built the look from a foundation of Jamaican school uniform tones — that clean, structured brown.
The pop of colour came from custom shoes I make myself, because the statement had to be personal. But something was still missing. Then it came to me: a belt. My mum is Jamaican, and to her, a good belt has always mattered. That's Caribbean. That's her. The belt I landed on was a bogul belt — a family piece, repurposed and doubled up as an accessory. Anyone from the Caribbean will know exactly what that means the moment they see it.
I was born in London, but my parents were both born in Jamaica. My generation has to do something different with that, because the whole point of people moving from one country to another is to adapt and change. We have new technology, new styles, and we are breaking the status quo.
The one thing we should take from Caribbean culture is to be confident, daring and unapologetic. Be the best version of yourself. Nothing else.
